No GravatarI want to give a big thank you to everyone who’s participated in the little Survey so far. You’re all awesome, and it’s helped me get a feel for what all your interests are and stuff. But if you haven’t done it yet, please take a minute and do it. It’s really short. Also, if you’re a girl who reads Far Reaches (or woman :) ) and haven’t taken the survey yet, I’d really like to know if my comic appeals to women as much as the guys. So far more guys have responded and I’m not sure if that’s just because fewer women have taken the survey or if my comic appeals more to guys? Also, I’d like to here from everyone on what you all like about Far Reaches and what other works it reminds you of. So far we’ve got a lot of Firefly and Lord of the Rings fans, and a few Doctor Who fans (any more Doctor fans? I love David Tennant! He rocks.) Oh here’s the Survey Link:Click Here to take survey

I hate to have to admit, and don’t hate me for this, but I’ve never actually seen the show Firefly yet.    Yes, I know. I saw Serenity in the theaters and thought it was amazingly well done and hands down far better written than the newer Star Wars. The dialog and characters were very well done. The only thing was that it was soooo dark. I’m more into light-hearted stuff in general so I’ve been afraid to watch the show yet. (I refuse to see Dark Knight again because as amazing as Heath Ledger was, that movie was stinking draining to watch. Whoa.) Anyway, those Reavers really freaked me out, and when the cool pilot guy suddenly got, well, impaled, I was like, “no way! That sucks!” Is the show as dark as the movie? I’d like to hear from you all.

In other news, even though I’ve been on Twitter for like a year, I really don’t know much on how to use it. I was just using it as an easy way to post a ‘next comic update’ on my site. Now I’ve found out people have replied to me like ages ago and I didn’t even know you could do that.  :???:  So sorry if I missed your reply. I’ve just installed Twirl and really like it. So now I’ll actually see your replies. Do I just reply in the normal Twitter thing or is there a special way? I’ve only just started following other people’s tweets. So I’m just now getting into it, and have now put a link to the Twitter page. I’ll try to make it more interesting.

One more thing.

Dark Knight FTL! Far Reaches FTW! ^.^

    Don’t knw about Firefly / Serenity …

  2. Lady Blanc

Firefly is certainly a gritty reality, and yes, some episodes were as dark as the movie. However, overall, I would say the series was lighter in tone than Serenity. Some episodes are quite light and extremely funny–for instance, check out Jaynestown. Mostly just a lot of laughs, with a rather tense climax and a thoughtful conclusion. Very few people don’t really like Firefly. I recommend it.

  3. Outlandish

That sounds cool. Well, as long as the show in general has some humor to it, I’ll have to check it out. (And I can always skip the freaky parts  )

But I noticed they have it for $25 on itunes, but I see that I can get the DVD’s used on Amazon for about the same price. I’ll have to pick it up next month once I got the money. One thing I love about DVD’s is that I can play them on my computer and take screen captures. Firefly seems to have some inspiring visuals from what I’ve seen, or at least Serenity did.

I concur with Lady Blanc. Though pretty much all of the episodes have a dark side it is so well mixed that it takes you through a wide range of emotions. Episodes like Out of Gas, where the crew faces slow death through suffocation or hypothermia, is full of funny, touching, sweet, and enlightening moments that keep it from devolving into a bleak angst fest. Even the mentioned episode Jaynestown, which is full of the “lol’s” has a serious introspective aspect.

  5. Outlandish

Now I have to get it. I really like it when they mix a lot of humor into an adventure or action movie. Besides, I’d like to have some more stuff to reference in the comic

Are you going to share the survey results? :is curious:

I will do a summery for everyone once I get enough participants. It’ll be really interesting.
