I really thought that as long as I limited the pages to two to six panels I’d be able to do two full-sized pages a week. But judging by how long it’s taken me to put together this one page 159, I realized that I was wrong. If I went back to doing the pages simply with 2d painted backgrounds and stuff I could probably do it. But so much more goes into the pages now. So I am hereby returning to the half comic format. Hey, I might even release only release a couple panels at a time and then format it all together on the page later for the book. With a big sequence coming up, I’m just realizing that there’s no way I can finish full pages all at once. The other problem is that the larger a background is on the page, the longer the render time in 3d. So smaller panels are better in general anyway.
But things were going pretty good for a while when I was doing the half strips, so here’s my goal. My initial goal is to do three half comics this week. I’m not committing to that as a schedule, it’s an experiment. Look for them Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Why such odd days? Because I’ll be working on finishing them Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, thus I’ll post them those nights. Now as I said, three half strips are just an experimental goal. I don’t know if I’ll reach it. If not, you’ll at least get two posts this week and the story will move forward.
Eventually, if I can get it down to five or six hours to do a single half strip, I’d like to put out four a week (because that would equal two full book pages and the more a comic updates the more it attracts readers.) But I don’t know. I have to balance wanting to get pages done for the book with the reality of how long it takes to do these things, and not of course over doing it.
Last week my schedule got trashed by Doctor’s appointments every single day (it’s not serious so don’t worry, they just all bunched up for us that week.) But this week should be much better. So let’s see as an experiment if I can do the three half strips this week.
