No GravatarHey, everyone. Page 134 is coming along well. I’m going to try and finish it by tomorrow morning if possible. We have a doctor’s appointment and some errands, but hopefully I can get it done before all that. One cool thing is that I got mentioned in Dave Kellett’s blog and he linked to the Far Reaches, which was extremely cool of him to do. Thanks, Dave!

But what I really wanted to mention is that next week I’m going to take a break from the story and see if I can get some of those pesky remaining black and white pages colored. I’d like to prepare it for print and one other thing, which I’ll talk about later. Hopefully, I can post the new pages to the website as well. It will also buy me some time to model a space ship I need to do. I have a cool concept sketch that I did, and I really like it. The only problem is that my modeling skills aren’t quite up to the task yet. My first attempt really sucked. (Although, it usually does :) ) So I downloaded a video tutorial series on how to model a very cool Le Mons C9 race car. This guy can model like nobody’s business. He’s absolutely awesome. The way he did the tire blew me away (and tires are tricky too). I’m going to see what techniques I can pick up so that the next time, I will a no fail. I will go up to the six-fingered man and say…um, sorry, where was I? Yes, hopefully my next attempt won’t suck so much. :P

Now, mind you, the ship doesn’t have to be perfect. But I’ll probably obsess over it unless it looks suitably cool enough. And this ship isn’t simply a one time vehicle like that armored hover car. It’s vitally important in the story and has to look good. So, while I’m working on that, I’ll also be working on coloring those pages and getting them over with. I hate coloring pages, which is why I started using Flash and completely changed the way I put the comic together. Of course, doing things the old way I wouldn’t have to worry about building a 3d space ship. Some things are just so much easier to draw than to model. But then it wouldn’t look as cool, you know? And while 3d can be a pain sometimes, it’s also pretty fun sometimes too. I wouldn’t be doing it if it weren’t. So there you go. I’ll just have to keep trying until it looks right.

[Edit] I’ve managed to do the elevation sketches for the top, side, front, and back of the ship. I should probably do the bottom too because its a rather complicated shape. I think the techniques in the videos are perfect to use, however. This will probably be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to model, but it’ll be a good challenge. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot. Don’t worry, though. I’ll try not to get carried away and take weeks to finish it.
