The Far Reaches Webcomic

Yay! I finally finished this page (and incidentally the chapter.) I really wanted to finish it Saturday, but after spending hours trying to color that big establishing shot and not getting anywhere, I just gave it up. I was really experimenting with different methods for coloring it but it was just looking horrible. And you know how it is when your really frustrated with something, I was almost ready to post it in black and white and swear off coloring the comics for good. So then I decided to work on it Sunday, but I ended up being sick all day Sunday and spent the whole day watching TV (which I never do.) Thankfully, I got a good nights sleep last night (for the first time in ages) and was able to start fresh this morning. I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out. Hopefully it was worth the wait. As you can see, that establishing shot is the most detailed and ambitious background I’ve ever done. I actually looked at a lot of concept art when I was drawing it, and I think it made a big difference. Reference material really is essential to that sort of thing.

Well, that’s finally the end of the chapter, although I’m kind of wondering if it should have been the beginning of the next chapter. Oh, well. Chapter three still needs a lot of work so I’m going to be doing some gag strips or posters for a week or two. I may even do a two or three page short story. I haven’t decided yet. I will do my best to do the next comic on Wednesday.
