No GravatarYay! It’s finally done! Yes, I realize it probably sucks and is a big let down, but at least it is the real page 126. I’ve been working on it since 5:30 am this morning (stupid insomnia) so at this point I’m so stinking exhausted that I can’t tell if I like it or not. I can’t be objective after staring at it all day. Maybe tomorrow. And yes, before you mention it, the girl’s t-shirt is stupid and absurd and lame. You know, I’ve been trying to think all week what to put on her t-shirt, and suddenly this came to me and made me laugh. Of course, I only laughed because it was so stupid, but then my humor usually is. It does kind of say a lot about her, though.

Anyway, at least we are now back with the storyline. I know it’s been so long it really loses something, but that happens. I really can’t believe it’s taken over a month to get back on track. I’d really like to thank everyone who’s stuck with it patiently. There were times I felt like giving up too, but that’s just my usual angsty artist moodiness. I’m glad I took the time to learn Hexagon and Carrara, though. It’s much easier to model a background set in Hex than it was in Lightwave, and Carrara does a great job lighting and rendering everything (and in a fraction of the time.) So, I’m pretty happy with them for the most part. I’m also pretty happy with the simple blurred out interior of the shop. You have no idea how much I was dreading having to do the inside of a shop, because there’s so much merchandise and stuff everywhere. But I think this technique worked pretty good. We know where we are, and it doesn’t really matter much to actually see all the detail because it would just distract anyway. Besides, I didn’t want to spent an eternity on a set that we’ll only see a couple times.

Well, I’m exhausted. I’m pretty proud of myself for making myself sit down all day and finish it. I actually made a deadline for once. And I was pretty worthless yesterday, so it feels good to get something productive done. I think, however, that I need to go rest as I’m starting to feel the strain of working since 5 am. I hope that you all aren’t too disappointed with it. I’m not really happy with how Vellara came out. I definitely need more practice trying to draw pretty girls, but I guess she could have been worse.

Oh, I almost forgot. Taking a cue from Fred G. at Megatokyo, I decided to get rid of that useless status bar on the main site and replace it with updates from Twitter. It’s much easier for me to update and you’ll get to better see how much progress I’m making. And it works on both sites. Okay, I’m going to go take it easy. Next comic will next Friday, I think. I’m going to shoot for a new one each Friday with some kind of preview or sketch or something earlier in the week. That’s it for now.

I guess you also noticed that spelling error by now (you’re- you are, ‘you are mom dresses you’?) But since you’re so tired I’ll let it slide.

You don’t have to work so hard, you know, if you’re sick then give yourself a break, man! But I do appreciate what you’ve done and I actually like the comic page.

I actually kind of like it. And don’t worry, it isn’t as bad as you think it is, since I can tell you’re kind of depressed right now.

Keep up the good work! I’m sure you’ll be able to work better when you get some sleep.

Response: Eh, I wouldn’t call it a let-down at all. The quality of your work continues to improve very impressively :) And I almost have enough money saved to buy a Bentley poster! ;)

Thanks for pointing out the spelling error, Minor Key! Even my sister didn’t catch that one. I’ll fix that today. I’m feeling a bit better now, though I was feeling lousy this morning. It comes and goes. Actually, I think I was so hard on myself Friday because I had been taking it easy most of the week. Granted, I hadn’t been feeling that great all week, but it feels good to sit down and get something done for a change. I did kind of over do it, but I have to take the energy when it comes.
I’m glad you both liked it. My sister liked it too, so I guess it’s okay. I’m just happy to finally have it done. Oh, BTW speaking of posters I should rant about that. I ordered a poster from Cafe Press and some other stuff and it came out pretty good. I’ll probably be putting a new store up soon. The mini-buttons I got have passed the sturdiness test on my backpack. They haven’t come off or anything, so I’ll probably bring them back. Well, I’ve got a lot to do today. I’m trying to get the graphics for the new site put together. That’s another one of those projects that need finishing.

Okay, the spelling error is fixed. You’ll have to refresh your browser to see it. Thanks again for catching that.

I have found this quote on YouTube you may find helpful.

“Some things to remember when drawing females as opposed to males are that with females use softer less-angular forms and don’t use harsh shadows. Keep the nose and chin smaller ( have less room between bottom of chin and bottom of lower lip ). Keep the eyes bigger and accentuate the lashes. Keep the eyebrows thinner. Have more room for the forehead… And have a smaller neck. Those things generally help me make my female characters distinguished from my male characters. Hope it helps. ” ~Sycra

Also, my own advice is to shade her nose a bit less. Then she will look perfect.

She isn’t ugly, she just needs some slight touch-ups. ;)

Thanks. That’s good advice. I’ll keep working on her.
