Captain Raquel “Rockie” Bedlam

No GravatarHey, all. Right now I’m working on a small freeware game starring Captain Raquel “Rockie” Bedlam, and no it’s not as serious as it looks. With a name like Rockie Bedlam you know you’re going to be in for some nonsense and parody, like rogue GSAP simuloids (Genuine Simulated Artist Protobot). And what robotic artist would be complete without rocket launchers. Why it’s an insult to think any red-blooded mad scientist would fail to include them. And if there’s one thing the M.A.D. League (Misunderstood Anxious Dreamers) is full of, it’s red-blooded scientists and rocket launchers. But of course, you know how many artists tend to be a little mentally, how do I put it…not entirely stable? Well, scientists like to get these details right.

Anyway, think of a Terry Pratchett Commander Vimes story set in a futuristic cyberpunk world with fanciful creatures and interdimensional travel and you’ll get some idea of the world for this game. It won’t be a long game, but it will be a complete short story. I’m currently working on the walkthrough and planning the puzzles.

As for Rockie, you may have seen a cartoony version of her before. I was originally going to make this a comic. Still I’m having so much fun with the 3d graphics I decided to make her more real looking. Although, I’m not sold on her look yet. She did have some cool shades too, but that was a little too Matrix, so I redid her. As for the trenchcoat, that was the nicest model I had. I could do it all in a more cartoony style, but I kind of like the 3d and have been really itching to play with it. Besides, using 3d, there’s a lot of really awesome existing content. A game is a lot more work than a comic, and that’s saying a lot. And art is one of the biggest challenges to making a game. Even bigger can be animating that art. Anyway, it’s all in flux right now but I’ll have more screens and pics as I work on them.

Looking at the pic I half expect some variation of the Deus Ex theme to start playing. Keep at it, hope to see more.

      :!:

  3. Outlandish

Yes, it is sort of Deus Ex. I like the cyberpunk trench coated look.

  4. Kris

Her character model reminds me of Ara from Tales of Thistledown.

  5. Outlandish

Ah, yes. I can see why. We both used Daz 3d’s Victoria 4 model, though the hair and facial morphs are different. But it definitely has a similar look. Victoria 4 is probably the best 3d girl model out there, at least for a reasonable price. He does a pretty good job rendering out the characters too.

Hey there, it’s been a while! I was checking up on TFR, and I’m loving your new 3D models. But, what has happened to TFR, are you just taking a break, and will it come back?

  7. Outlandish

Thanks, I’m glad you like the models. I actually didn’t model them myself. That’s a little beyond me. But to answer your question, I’m really not sure what to do with TFR. I’m tired of doing straight comics, and would rather do indie games right now. Of course, there’s nothing stopping me from doing a TFR game. But I’m not sure about the story. That’s the big thing holding me back from doing a TFR game. Maybe if I could redo the story for an interactive game we just might see more TFR.

Cheers on the updates. Looks like it’s going to be a neat game. I’ll stay tuned.

Bummin’ about the TFR, tho. Was really diggin’ it. If you want any help writing/editing that, let me know.

Thanks! I’m actually thinking of repurposing and adapting the original epic TFR story to another project. I think it might turn out really cool.
