[Comic 257] It’s a What?!

No GravatarFlash was just proving to cumbersome to mess with so I decided to do the comic in Manga Studio for inking, which saved a lot of time. More importantly, it allowed me to really play with the expressions and such and get them just right. Not worrying about color just saves so much time and energy. Right now I don’t have much to spare. Still I thought this one came out pretty good. Interesting turn of events in today’s strip, but where will it lead?

    It’s just a wrong file or it’s a code.
It looks suspicious. I mean… it looks like a one week clothes reservation.
one tunic per day, none for weekends. But who needs 45 pairs of socks for one week?

  2. Outlandish

heh heh  who indeed. Find out Friday.

Anyone handling that kind of sock-to-tunic ratio cannot be trusted. Clearly. Color me suspicious

NOW, if this was a more serious comic, I would have definitely thought that it’s really code. BUT, considering this comic… I would not be surprised at all if it turned out to be mistaken identity…..

And the prof is copying the *real* decrypted data to his local storage. “Nope, nothing there but shopping lists. It’s still encrypted on the sphere, but you can have it back anyway.”

‘Allo again! ^^ Sorry I haven’t commented on the last few pages! But I am back! I really enjoyed the visit we had w/ the girls earlier. =D And yaaay more plot development!

    Now, more specific commenting:
…It’s a code. It’s got to be a code! It’s ALWAYS a code. The hero simply does not end up with something like this and almost get killed 18,000 times only to find out it’s nothing at all and go back to his mundane, dorktastic life. It’s simply not done. So it must be a code. Or…the real message is hidden underneath. Or the doctor is in on it and has insidiously replaced the information! The FIEND!
    Or, you know. Something.
I like the doc’s expression in panel 3. XD And Gilrec in chibi form is ALWAYS enjoyable, so panel 1 is also epic win. And new girl? Very interesting. This comic needed an old rival antagonistic-yet-likely-important female character on the scene since our other gal pals are busy being chased by baddies over a scam they actually didn’t pull.

Well that was fun! I think I’ve made up for missing out on ranting these last few weeks.

Hello again! I’m glad you like the expressions in this page. I’m really happy with how they came out. That’s one thing I like about manga studio is that it’s easy for me to experiment with expressions. And it’s been a while since we’ve had a good chibi Gilrec. And you’re right. This new female character was really needed since Brin and Pix are currently in another part of the adventure. A friend was asking me why there’s no girl/love interest for Gilrec, and I had no answer. Originally it was Brin, but she’s not really his type. Thus was born Andry Bolt-Upright, and she and her father will be very important.

On another note, I fixed the spelling error “tale” not “tail”. And I learned that doing the word balloons in Manga Studio is a bad idea because then I have to go back into that program to fix the errors, re-export, scale and put into the toned comic. Such a pain. I’m doing Friday’s comic entirely in Flash, with some help from Photoshop. But I’m going to see if doing it all in Flash speeds things up plus it’ll let me keep it in color. So here’s hoping.

Have I commented here before…? I can’t even remember. Anywhooo, I’ve been reading for a while now, and I’m loving it so far. I love a story that doesn’t take itself too seriously…without being a total farce. And it’s a snarky sci-fi with a robot butler.

While the color pages are nice, I’d much prefer having the story actually /last./ I’ve known webcomics that have simply been discontinued because it simply wasn’t fun anymore for the author. And that’s just sad. It’s true, you folks do it for free. So, whatever works for you. Have fun with it.

Thanks so much. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying it. I’ve just reached saturation point today (it’s been such a busy week and I just need to have a day off.) And so the next comic will be black and white and done on Wednesday. Flash is just too frustrating for me. So I’ll be back to doing it in Manga Studio and Photoshop. It’s just easier and more fun, and like you say, it has to be fun since I do it for free. I just need to de-stress today.
