[Comic 252] The Meeting

No GravatarI had originally planned a gag strip involving Brin and how she got into the refinery. But then we thought it would be better to get right to the action. So I rewrote it. Mr. Hohn is the leader of those bug-eyed assassins that chased Brin and Pix. You notice the pirates all have weapons in the “no weapon” zone of the refinery. Well, pirates never could read signs and wouldn’t care about them even if they could.

The backgrounds are not up to my usual standard. But it was already late last night and I just needed to finish. That’s what happens when I get sick and lose my buffer. But I’ll try to build it back up. Still, at least it’s in color. I very nearly did this one in black and white, and even so had to reuse a lot of previously drawn characters to finish on time. But I got the new color print version of the TFR Vol. One and it was so beautiful in color that I just had to keep doing color. I just have to simplify. I wish I had the luxury of having a colorist like Girl Genius, but I could never afford it. So we’ll just see what I can do by myself.

Great page! Can’t wait to see what Brin’s up to … and the face of the mysterious Hohn!

  2. Outlandish

Thanks! I was going to show him but I haven’t quite finalized the design and especially his hair. Besides, I thought this was much more effective.

  3. Outlandish

Just fixed some spelling errors my sister caught.

Also did you mean to have the “how’d did” in that last panel thought bubble? ;)

And a good question Brin. What, indeed, does Gilrec have to do with anything.

    Keep Hohn mysterious.

Gilrec normaly would not have anything to do with stuff like this, but ala treasure Island he has the map/artifact, and everyone who knows wants the map. Brin, unfortunately, did not know. I wonder if we will ever see a character who fits the role of betrayer. Right now Gilrec’s instinct is that that will be the old mentor / decoder, but I could see a twist where it could be a few others.

You could probably get rid of the “d” in “how’d”, unless you were going for an extra d sound.

  7. Outlandish

Thanks for catching that. I just fixed it.

@TheKurgan: it is very treasure island like. Yet there’s much more to this than there seems.
