Yeah, like I said it’s impossible to be original anymore. Everything’s been done before. But as long as it’s fun and you put a little twist on it I guess its not too bad.

Yeah, it’s been done in other things. I haven’t seen any of the Spiderwick Chronicles either. Come to think of it, I’ve probably seen it in a couple of different movies, both fantasy and modern spy movies. And by that I mean spy movies made in the Cold War period, none of this Bourne stuff.

Really? I’ve not seen Spiderwick Chronicles. Still I have this sneaking suspicion it’s been in other things too. I know I didn’t just come up with it on my own.

YES! I know exactly where I heard it before,(the give me what I want and this will all be a bad dream) the ogre Mugwrath, in Spiderwick Chronicles. His goblins captured one of the kids who lives at the old house where a journal detailing all the secret powers and weaknesses of the fairy folk lived, and Mugwrath wants that journal so he can dominate/kill them. After letting the boy go to get the journal, he tells his goblins that once they have the journal, to kill the boy.

It seems that the kid may have the advantage here: If he were to just hold the artifact out to the side he could explain that if he dies or gets injured, the artifact will fall and the hunter won’t be able to get it in time before it falls.

If the hunter doesn’t leave, again, he could just drop the artifact. The hunter will at least be able to have a chance to get the artifact later if he walks away. Not so if he injures or kills the guy now while trying to wrest the artifact from him.

All he has to do is to keep a level head and he can bargain his way out of this situation like that. Mind you, I’ve forgotten what the artifact is at this point…

Mind you, I have gone without sleep for a while….

No intentional reference on that one, though it may be something in the back of my head that made me think of it. Does have some kind of familiar ring to it though, now that you mention it, but I can’t think what.
