Color! It’s been a while. I had been doing black and white for some time just because I felt coloring was too time intensive. But I like it colored so much better so I decided to look around for a simple look that wouldn’t take so long. I happened to check out Apple Geeks, the artist, Hawk, is always experimenting with his art and is a good colorist, and I really liked his recent stuff. Simple, but nice. So I decided to try it myself. I still need to play around with getting the cut-shading to look right, but it definitely took less time to do. And I kept the backgrounds simple. Still, I think it looks loads better than the black and white pages. So I’ll keep experimenting. Hope you enjoy it. And I’m glad to get back to Gilrec’s plight. What will he do now?

Ooo, Star Wars reference?
I love the art.
Definitely a reference. I wasn’t about to go with the cut off hand and being someone’s father, that was just too far
But I’ve been wanting to do this scene for a while. It’s not as Empire Strikes Backish as originally intended, but I’m happy with how it came out. I’m glad you love the art. I really like this coloring style. It wasn’t too hard or tiring to do, so I think I can keep it up like this. That would be good.
Ooo, colour.
The truth hurts
This is a great new look! The inked look makes it like reading it right out of a comic book.
Thanks
Okay, the Star Wars reference was obvious, but I can’t help but feel there’s another one. The whole “you don’t belong be the hero, go back to your safe place thing” screams it, but I just can’t place it.
No intentional reference on that one, though it may be something in the back of my head that made me think of it. Does have some kind of familiar ring to it though, now that you mention it, but I can’t think what.
It seems that the kid may have the advantage here: If he were to just hold the artifact out to the side he could explain that if he dies or gets injured, the artifact will fall and the hunter won’t be able to get it in time before it falls.
If the hunter doesn’t leave, again, he could just drop the artifact. The hunter will at least be able to have a chance to get the artifact later if he walks away. Not so if he injures or kills the guy now while trying to wrest the artifact from him.
All he has to do is to keep a level head and he can bargain his way out of this situation like that. Mind you, I’ve forgotten what the artifact is at this point…
Mind you, I have gone without sleep for a while….
(momentary silence) Um, yes. He, um, could do that. Maybe.
That’s nagging at the back of my mind, too. Like I’ve heard it somewhere before…
Yeah, I don’t know. There’s no original stories any more. Everything’s been done before. It’s just trying to remember where it was done. Oh, well. Hopefully, you’ll all enjoy the ending anyway
YES! I know exactly where I heard it before,(the give me what I want and this will all be a bad dream) the ogre Mugwrath, in Spiderwick Chronicles. His goblins captured one of the kids who lives at the old house where a journal detailing all the secret powers and weaknesses of the fairy folk lived, and Mugwrath wants that journal so he can dominate/kill them. After letting the boy go to get the journal, he tells his goblins that once they have the journal, to kill the boy.
Really? I’ve not seen Spiderwick Chronicles. Still I have this sneaking suspicion it’s been in other things too. I know I didn’t just come up with it on my own.
Yeah, it’s been done in other things. I haven’t seen any of the Spiderwick Chronicles either. Come to think of it, I’ve probably seen it in a couple of different movies, both fantasy and modern spy movies. And by that I mean spy movies made in the Cold War period, none of this Bourne stuff.
Yeah, like I said it’s impossible to be original anymore. Everything’s been done before. But as long as it’s fun and you put a little twist on it I guess its not too bad.
