The Far Reaches Webcomic

It’s an interesting coincidence this page ended up being done during the whole political…stuff going on right now. In fact, this page doesn’t have any inspiration in what’s going on in the news at all. I had decided to do this scene last year and the inspiration was a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe. In that operetta Gilbert and Sullivan satirized the House of Lords (I think that was it) in the late 1800′s. But I remember these funny, plump politicians or Lords, dressed in long robes and coronets, and with skinny little legs, singing and dancing around. It made me laugh and I new I wanted to do that with the speech scene.

Of course, there’s also some references to the Muppet Show, which is my all time favorite TV show. (Oh, and a certain trilogy too.) It’s just an interesting bit of timing that this page I planned over a year ago ended up coming out now. I try to stay neutral when it comes to politics, so this satire is more universal rather than topical.

Still, I had fun doing the laser show.
