Okay, here it is. I’m pretty happy with the coloring on this one. This is the first time in ages that I completely inked the page in Manga Studio. I have to say it’s way, way better for inking comics than Painter in my opinion. With Manga Studio I just have an easier time getting nice straight even strokes, and more natural line art. I use its “G Pen”, which does a nice job representing the look of the actual pen nib from Japan of the same name. I can get a nice thick/thin line variation.
This is also the first comic after getting back from San Diego Comic-Con. I was seriously considering doing the comic in black and white from now on, but Jimmy Gownley, who does the excellent kid’s comic Amelia Rules, talked me out of it. When I mentioned I could always have a colorist color it later, he was kind enough to say that my painting was beautiful as it was and it would be a shame to lose that. He’s a very nice guy (and not just because he said my art was beautiful
). Anyway, that’s why it’s still in color. And after doing this page I’m pretty glad I decided to paint it. It would’ve been pretty dull in plain black and white.

I agree with him. You’re doing a great job. I especially like the last few pages.
Thanks! I’m so glad you liked those pages. There’s a lot of interesting stuff coming up.
Been out for about a month, just catching up. But I just want to say I’m also grateful he talked you out of black and white – I like your coloring quite a bit. And I’m definitely intrigued to see where this goes….
Welcome back! Yeah, I ultimately want to stick with coloring if I can. But it’s hard to keep up with at times.
