I’ve been planning on introducing Riffy’s valet for some time, although I wasn’t sure what form he’d take. Riffy is, of course, very rich (300,000 for a paint job for crying out loud), and like so many highly intelligent people, needs someone to help him take care of the mundane things. Also it made sense that he’d have a mechanic for his ship. Riffy certainly wouldn’t be doing that himself. I also wanted a sort of conflict with Binder. He’s the sort of character who needs someone to tell him off. Because I couldn’t decide on which name to give the little robot, I thought it would be much more fun to let you all vote. I’ll leave the poll open for the rest of the week.

He’s so a Tilton. But anyway, just one thing: “a topping mechanic”? I assume you mean “top.”
Kudos for the new page!
I voted for Tilton, but it’s fun to see what everyone thinks. Actually I did mean “topping mechanic” but it’s such an archaic phrase. I think I watch too many old movies and BBC shows that take place in the 20s and 30s (and all the classic books.)
I should really come up with something more, what’s the word? Not up to date, but basically make up some good sounding lingo that works in the scifi world of the clueless rich kids. Pix says “ultra sweet”. But that’s her phrase. Anyway, thanks for the kudos!
How about Jeeves–from the Jeeves and Wooster series–although he’s sort of the opposite of him!
Last panel expression = funny
I voted with the majority.
“Tilton, my slippers.” Has a nice ring to it. And I love the Adams-esque robot personalities!
Yes, I have to admit, Tilton has a nice ring to it. It’s become my favorite, I think.
Ruth: I think since Bentley is aready so much like Jeeves, I’d rather not use that name. But thanks for the input!
SEA: Thanks! I’m glad you liked it. I really liked the banter between him and Binder in that panel.
I think “topping” sounds just fine. Riffy strikes me as the sort that *would* use upper-class British slang. One thing I’d like to know, though — who exactly *is* Riffy? I thought *he* was *Binder’s* servant.
Wyvern
Yes, maybe I should explain that. Riffy has been mentioned earlier in name only and Binder is always getting him and Gilrec mixed up, which is funny since they’re nothing alike. But Binder is actually a sponge, and Riffy is his very wealthy friend. Binder, Riffy, Mad Mallidon, and Gilrec were all at university together on the Terran homeworld. I probably should add some dialog explaining who Riffy is. That’s a good idea as I’m writing up the next page this very minute. I’m glad you brought that question up!
I’ve added the final name, Tilton to the page. You may have to refresh the page to see it.
Ah. My mistake. ‘Fraid my education in british slang is *sigh* sadly lacking. It IS Tilton! Power to the people
