The Far Reaches Webcomic

This was a really fun page to do, but also the hardest special effects scene I think I’ve ever done. Or rather three special effects shots. I love doing explosions and stuff, but I actually took some screen captures of the opening space battle of Star Wars: Episode III to use as reference for the effects because I was having a hard time capturing the right look. The first panel was probably the hardest to get right. And I added the force field effect because I wanted them to actually blow all the way through the ad drone and still be in one piece (more or less.) Of course, realistically they probably would’ve just smashed to bits, but this looks cooler. Besides, I wanted them alive because the scene isn’t quite over yet. (And this is a family comic, after all.)

Pix’s little dance wasn’t in it originally, but it just seemed to fit and I had fun drawing it. The silly little song was my sister’s doing.
