I really had to use reference for Vellara on this one, although Gilrec came out much better when I free-handed him. What really helped was finally making a collage of faces for my major characters, and just picking the faces and expressions I really liked the most. That’s going to really help me keep the characters “on model” or consistent.
I’m still working on getting the shading right. I often don’t take enough time to really map out the shadows based on where the light is coming from. That’s one of my weaknesses I’m working on. A lot of times I just generically shade it to get it done.
A big thing here that I added that wasn’t in the original script was Gilrec trying to fight back. He’s got a lot of emotional baggage, but he’s really trying. When I first finished the pencils I realized that Gilrec couldn’t just stand there taking such abuse. So I added panel four. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the page. (Oh, and there’s another obscure spin on a Pratchett lineĀ
)

Hey, who’s suprise that will happen?
(the doom)
Yup. Those prophecies can be a pain. It’s a shame Vellara never realized Gilrec was a Doomed Hometown waiting to happen.
Comes in handy for Gilrec, though. What is it with pets and evil?
*Goes back and tries to memorize entire Discworld series*
I’m gonna sing the DOOM song now…doom, doom, doom, doom, do-doom, doom, doooooom.
It’s certainly building nicely. I’m so pumped!
