[Comic 176] Not Gonna Stop
This page is very FX heavy and I started rendering images days ago so I’d have everything on time. But I’m really happy with the look of it. I think I’m starting to hit on a weapon FX that I like, though it’s fun to keep playing with new looks. These guys are weapons dealers, after all, so they’ve got all kinds of stuff.
You may also notice I love doing shiny vehicles. That’s one of the coolest things about 3d is that it’s relatively easy to do realistic reflections. Hand-painting such a look, on the other hand, is very time-consuming and takes a lot of effort. I think I mentioned earlier that one of my main reasons for adding the cops is that I had already designed and built the cop car a long time ago and just really wanted to use it. Actually the villain’s fighters are a fixed up version of a ship I did many years ago as well. That’s the nice thing about 3d, is you can just reuse stuff as much as you want for new projects. Back when I was originally doing 3d art I never thought I’d be using it in a comic.
Another fun thing to do was the Gruesain thug’s cockpit. I didn’t have time to spend making this elaborate set, so I kept it simple. Besides, it’s only shown small and a couple times. Considering I didn’t really spend a lot of time on it, maybe an hour and a half, I’d say it looks fairly good. I kept the reflections on the canopy light so they didn’t overpower the little bug-guy inside.

I like your ship designs, and the paint jobs make them even more interesting. Riff’s ship looks perfect for a rich racer, and the police cruiser is pretty cool. Even the rolls / mercedes that gilrec was in on the way back to the hotel looks right.
Great job!

Thanks! One of my favorite parts is designing and building the ships. The only exception are the bounty hunters on pg 177 (next page), which I used some generic ships I bought and then fixed them up. But I’d rather design them myself when I’ve got time.
